It’s all in the numbers
Last September we exposed BlogTv was using bots to add viewers to their web site to make the site look bigger than it really is, and well…
We have found a flaw in there, “The viewers are higher because they are people watching your show but not logged into your chat.” bullshit story they have been feeding everyone, all the while Let’s Talk knew that they were using bots.
In the following screen shots you will see in both (taken today) that the chatter numbers are higher than the viewer numbers.
Frankly these numbers are the truth behind the bots. These numbers show that the BlogTv bot program like most everything else is not perfect.
How can there be more chatters than viewers, when in fact you have to be viewing to be chatting

Why would blogtv bot their own shows? Users can bot BlogTV shows. There are several websites/methods available for doing it. A chatter count can be higher than viewers if the chatters come in the show, the show is restarted or the broadcaster refreshes, and some of the chatters do not refresh their page. If the stream is dead on their page, they are not counted as a viewer.

This happens when there is a connection fail at blogTV. When you come back, your show while having more chatters than viewers. There have been a lot of ‘Connection Faileds’ for me the last month…

“Connection Fail” means when you are broadcasting and the show basically just ’stops’ due to internet access going out, or a problem on blogTV’s end.
Connection Failed only happens to broadcasters. Hope that helps!
Also, stopping a show when there are guests/lurkers in ther room, then restarting it will do the same thing.

The reason chatters are higher than viewers at times is if the show stops and then restarts. The people who are in the chat room but haven’t refreshed the video feed will appear in the chat list but are NOT viewing the stream. Therefor the viewers number is lower than the chatters number because people go AFK in shows sometimes and aren’t there to refresh.

The “Have to be viewing to be chatting” thing isn’t completely true. I have found a way to spam only chatters into a room (has a flaw). It’s also pretty simple to do. Also the chat loads faster than the video does, and some people will only be able to load the chat full stop if they are at work for example, which will make the video viewers appear to be lower than the number of chatters in some cases. Blogtv have tried clamping down on viewer botting recently (failed though). I don’t doubt for a minute that they do lie to the public about how many genuine people are online, in shows etc. I also hate the fact Blogtv “Ranks” people, so not everyone has equally opportunities on the site, which is one of the main reasons why I made btvbots.com so we have some power over that to level the playing field slightly.

hey, just wanted to throw my 2 cents in here. Asht0r0 is right. this lower viewer count than chatter count does happen a lot. because of blogtv’s unreliable servers, and the fact that they are far away (Israel). a lot of times, people need to refresh their shows. when all the viewers are refreshing, the viewer count is much lower, as most of the chatters are still seeing a frozen screen not moving. this is not because blogtv is botting their own shows. thanks.

The other day I was in a room and there were clearly 8 chatters in there but the count said 6. I counted 8 and you know I can count because I was able to post this comment. The poor person doing the show got cheated from two viewers. Imagine that? I think he should get some sort of compensation from BlogTV for that. Maybe a free PRO account for life or unlimited nifty gifties for all the suffering and hardship he had to endure from being cheated by a two viewer count. Don’t you agree?

Here’s the theory: BlogTV was buggered by a DdoS attack a few months ago (for the dummies a DdoS attack is nothing more than an massive HTTP flood/spam send from hundreds of pcs) BlogTV took action on that and decided to block pings from WAN (you can’t ping to blogTV anymore see for yourself) BUT! the smarties use KeepAlive method that uses basicly uses Ping to keep your connection alive and have a steady broadcast connection (even when your internet download/upload has an extreme low peak) when this happends it means you could get disconnected from the show for 1 second, the KeepAlive method makes sure a ping comes back and keeps the show going. but now that they blocked the Ping your pc is not able to send and Echo to the server anymore. this is why BlogTV shows crash more often recently. GOOD JOB BLOGTV ^_^

If a show stops and people dont refresh, chatters are usually in a higher number than viwers until everyone refreshes.
